Life is full of surprises as we go about our journey. The past two years has brought about much loss and changes, yet blessings too. Anchored Studio is dedicated to my family and those who have supported me . As Anchor Studio grows you will see many more beautiful things as God reveals them.
May you always dream with your heart. Follow your heart but let your head do the driving. Keep God centered of it all and he will direct your path.

About the author
Robert Connaway
I realized at a young age I had a creative yearning. This has followed through into my adult life. I majored in visual art at Flagler College. Upon earning my degree, I liked where I was living in Saint Augustine and stayed. Writing is an extension of my creativity. Stories create imagery. Incorporating paintings with my writing enriches the experience for the recipient.
The son of an artist who painted and sculpted, I found painting on canvas, the most rewarding.
I am a studio artist, as well as, a plein air painter. Walking around Saint Augustine you may find me painting a scene in the cool morning.
Incorporating people into my paintings, often times you will find my wife Cathy as my muse. I enjoy including a occasional cat, dog, and horse with a carriage.
Ocean views with dunes let my creativity expand, painting dramatic or stormy skies. We are honored to have him part of the gallery.

Darla Donley: Our newest beautiful artist just arrived in the gallery!
Artist Biography
Darla Donley was born in Battle Creek, Michigan. She has lived all over the country and made Florida her home in 2016. She lives with her family in Palm Coast, Florida, but spends the majority of her time in St. Augustine.
Darla began her art journey in early 2014 when her husband signed them up for a painting class. By lunchtime, Darla knew she wanted to pursue painting and teaching art classes as a career.
Her art journey began with her certificate as a landscape instructor through the Bob Ross company. The Bob Ross technique was a great starting point, but she wanted more detail. She found Wilson Bickford. He was a wet-on-wet instructor in NY and had a PBS show. It is through Wilson Bickford’s Trained Teacher (instructor) program that Darla learned the art of palette knife painting.
In early 2017, a friend of Darla’s told her about a portrait artist, Valerie Stewart, that teaches classes all over the country. After researching Valerie Stewart, Darla got into her first portrait class in Florida in November 2017. Darla painted 5 days a week for 5 years to perfect her painting skills and continues to paint full-time.
Darla soon found Marion Dutton and became a painting partner. Darla also became a certified portrait instructor under Valerie Stewart in March 2019. She enjoys painting people and animals using realism techniques. She will be teaching people and pet portraits soon.
Darla’s paintings have been featured on the cover of the St. Augustine Entertainer magazine 16 times in 6 years.
Darla enjoys painting with a variety of techniques . . . portrait painting, traditional oil painting, finger painting, and palette knife painting.

Pam Consolie- Bio
Born and raised in the Finger Lakes region of New York in the small town of Geneva, I met my husband in high school and we married in 1983. We were blessed with our two boys, Jack and Anthony, in 2000 and 2001, respectively. They are a constant source of pride and immense joy. Being a wife to my best friend and a mother to two great young men have been my greatest accomplishments. A year after graduating from The State University of New York at Geneseo with a major in educationand a minor in art, we moved to Georgia and settled in Stockbridge and then in McDonough, both suburbs of Atlanta. I worked for Henry County Schools in Georgia in several positions, ultimately serving as an elementary school Principalfor 17 years. During those years I continued my education culminating with a Doctorate from The University of Georgia. After working in schools for 30 years, I retired from Henry County Schools in 2017. Shortly after retiring, I began working part-time as a coach for new teachers and did this for three yearsuntil Covid changed everything.
In 2021, our family realized a long-held goal of moving to St. Augustine. Having spent countless vacations in St. Augustine over the years, we were finally able to make it our full-time home. After making the move, I found I had time to indulge my life-long interest in art, having studied art in both high school and college. I converted our pool house into an art studio where I happily spend countless hours creating. I enjoy working in a variety of mediums including acrylic painting, resin, coastal art, beading and jewelry making. Currently, I devote much of my time to working in acrylic paints and resin. I love the beach with its vibrant colors, beautiful marine creatures and plant life, and ever-changing moods. The beauty that surrounds me on a daily basis is a heavy influence on the art work that I do.
Along with art, I enjoy reading, crocheting, walking the beach, travel, all things Notre Dame (Go Irish!), and most of all, spending time with my family.

Statement
Painting for me is about finding that scene or still life or person that moves me to paint. The passion of the subject matterwhatever it is. The contrast of light and dark. It's all about the light for me really. Nature gives me so many beautiful scenes to try and capture and I hope the viewer of the painting can experience the same joy. It's a journey that takes me to constant challenges and different techniques. Often I found my greatest freedom to explore when I paint over old canvases realizing I have nothing else to lose so why not go for it or do something different.

Gene was born in Charleston, South Carolina and moved with his family to Fort Lauderdale, Florida at the age of 12. As a child and teen, art was always an important part of his life. While in high school he arranged his schedule so that he could take art class all four years. During this period, he won awards and contributed to his school’s literary magazine. At the urging of a high school art teacher, Gene entered a local college as an art major but after a year found himself pulled in a vastly different direction – computer and informational sciences. After graduating from the University of Florida with a degree in CIS, he embarked on a long and successful career in the information systems field. During this time Gene never lost his interest and desire to draw and paint and is now returning to this endeavor on a full-time basis.
Gene worked mainly in watercolors for much of his youth, but a couple of years ago he started working with oil, something not done since high school. His focus is mainly Florida landscapes but will not limit himself to any given area. Gene has lived in beautiful Oviedo, Florida for over 30 years with his wife Julie. Together they have two grown sons and two wonderful grandchildren.

Delta Stained Glass Studio

Here is my bio.
I was born and raised in a small town in Massachusetts, in the Berkshires. After graduating from college, I worked in accounting for many years. I eventually taught myself medical transcription and spent 20 years transcribing from my home as an independent contractor. My husband, son, and I moved to Florida 11 years ago. I picked up my first paint brush in 2020 after I retired, strictly as “something to do”. I am completely self-taught, as my only training has consisted of watching countless tutorials on the internet to learn various techniques. After selling numerous acrylic paintings, I decided to try my hand at colored pencils in 2022. This allowed me to achieve the level of details I was not able to get with painting. In 2023, I moved on to pastel pencils, which is my absolute favorite of all mediums so far. I have experimented with watercolors as well, but I always go back to my pastel pencils. I consider myself a photorealistic artist. I mostly enjoy doing animals, domestic and wildlife, as well as people of all ages. The first time I entered a piece of my art into a gallery was in 2023. To my surprise, it sold! I am thoroughly enjoying this chapter of my life.

Oleg Meerson is a 3D Leather artist! We Are so excited to have him part of our gallery. His Bio is coming soon.

Alpatrick McCleary ART BIO
Ever since winning first place in a Halloween art contest in the first grade—with my drawing proudly displayed at the Bank of Newberry, Florida—I knew that creating art was something special for me.
My mom was proud of me but not particularly happy with my art piece because we didn’t celebrate Halloween. Either way that childhood moment sparked a lifelong journey of expression beginning with pencil drawings and then transitioning to watercolor and ink.
My work is deeply emotional, guided by raw feeling rather than formal training. I create from the heart—free from rigid influences or expectations—because I believe that’s where true creativity, beauty and truth live. My style is unfiltered and intuitive, shaped by both my passion and my resistance to artistic confinement the BOX. I still remember struggling in Mrs. Gordon’s high school art class—not because I didn’t care, but because I couldn’t create within the box I was placed in. That experience taught me that freedom is essential to my art.
Each piece I make carries the energy I want to share with the world— that comes from my feelings as I create. The gift from the CREATORS makes me choose what calls me, the lines I stroke, and the colors that I choose. My greatest hope is that my work touches someone, even if only for a moment. I want to leave behind more than just images—I want to leave a piece of myself, a reflection of my soul, that lives on long after I’m gone.
This is more than a journey. It’s my legacy. And I’m just getting started.
And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: - Genesis 1:26
We don’t let up!

Adriana and I met through Georgia Nick Gallery when I first started painting. She was also an influence in my artwork. Im so thankful for her. She studied in Barcalona, Madrid for many years. Her bio will be coming soon.

Bernadette Kloss Artist Bio
I was born and raised in Michigan. Born to parents with congenital defects and thus unemployable in the 1950s. This resulted in living in poverty during childhood. I always dreamtof being an artist as a child but was told that it would not be a viable profession to reliably earn a livable income. So, I sought more traditional employment. After retiring from a long career of office work in 2013, I retired and picked up a ‘How-to-Draw’ book at a garage sale and began drawing. After a few years of practicing drawing skills, I began experimenting with paints. After hearing about senior tuition rates at Kirtland Community College, in 2018 I took a drawing class and a painting class and took some private lessons from professional artists to further myskills. Initially I spent my time between the woods of northern Michigan and St. Augustine, Florida where I receive inspiration from my surroundings and foreign and domestic travels. From the inspiration of my studio in the woods of northern Michigan I named my studio FaelandArt. As Fae is old English for Fairy, and fairies of course live in the woods. I now live full time in the beautiful city of St. Augustine.

W. raquelrubi.com
Raquel Rubí is a Cuban-born visual artist and
opera singer whose multidisciplinary career
bridges the worlds of music and visual
expression. A classically trained soprano and
lifelong performer, Rubi brings the same
emotional intensity and lyrical flow of her
stage work into her paintings.
Her visual art blends realism, abstraction, and impressionism into a symbolic language
rooted in the body, memory, and nature.
She presented her first solo exhibition in December 2023 at the Rotunda of the
Government Center in St. Augustine, Florida. Since then, her work has been featured in
Florida galleries including ArtBox 137 and The Bart in St. Augustine, Gallery 500 in
Daytona Beach, the JohnBeard Gallery, Hight Tide Gallery, and the Anchored Studio
Gallery in St. Johns.
Rubí currently lives and works in Florida, where she continues to perform and expand
her painting practice. Her Archival Shells collection explores memory, fragility, and
preservation, while her ongoing series UnderWater dives into themes of transformation
and the hidden emotional landscapes beneath the surface. She completed the Master's
program with the Milan Art Institute and, most recently, undertook an intensive
decorative arts program with the Institute, further enriching her technical and creative
range. Her devotion to education and her passion for expanding the arts, while providing
opportunities for people to experience them firsthand, have led her to develop several
programs, including the RubiArt Educational Program (2024–2025) and the preparation
of Arts for All (2026).

SCOTT MORPHEW
In 1987 I moved to my favorite place I ever lived, St. Augustine. Many times, I would walk from Saragossa Street, down St. George Street to the city pier with my large drawing pad, sit on the pier and draw boats. After drawing, I enjoyed walking to the two-story Wendy’s restaurant. In the warm summer months, I would have a chocolate frosty while in the cool winter I would eat a bowl of their chili.
I left St. Augustine to study mechanical design at Purdue University. Post graduation ai worked for an aerospace manufacturer. All this time I missed St. Augustine
My journey through art and design has brought some great people into my life. Lacy Vanzant (The father of Southern Rock), Newman Darby (inventor of the windsurfer) and Charlie Daniels to name a few.
I enjoy drawing black & white. I feel being partially colorblind gives me strength to do so. Sometimes we are strengthened through our weaknesses.
Love to draw The Bridge of Lions, Magnolia Street, St. Augustine trees and more.
The name of my current theme of art is “Trees in the Night”. I capture and share them through art and photography.
So join Roderick, fellow artists and me in Anchored Studio Gallery and see where our journey takes us.
